Standing Committee on Youth Justice: Lobbying in respect of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill.

Committee member Lorna Hadley is currently acting as Chair for the SCYJ and it has been a busy time with the whole committee putting all their hard efforts into lobbying in respect of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill.

A small group of SCYJ representatives met with the Bill Team as well as attending a Peers briefing meeting: This meeting was hosted by Baroness Stern, and took place at the House of Lords. The aim of this meeting was to present all SCYJ amendments to interested peers and determine which peers want to lead on which issues.

Following the successful briefing meeting that SCYJ held for peers, the first two days of Committee stage have almost exclusively dealt with the SCYJ amendments and lots of peers have spoken to the briefings. On the other hand although the Minister has given slightly fuller answers on some of the issues that will be helpful going forward, he has not not really conceded any ground at all.

The debates can be found at: http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2007-08/criminaljusticeandimmigration.html

Also find attached copies of all the Committee stage amendment briefings.
